Get to know the “Captain and the Chef”

Martin and Jo have been employed in the Yachting Industry globally for the past 25 years.

Their early years saw them running high end diving and adventure charters in such far flung places as Africa and the Middle East. From there a move to Mexico and the Sea of Cortez saw charters for the rich and famous added to their resumés. They eventually settled into a yacht with a Global itinerary specializing in Game Fishing and Diving. After over a decade and two circumnavigations they decided to make Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef their home bringing along their enviable skill set and experience to help provide charters of the highest calibre aboard MY Spirit.

Their love of the ocean is evident in all they do, being so passionate in all water sports enables them to easily cater for the most discerning and adventurous of guests whilst still producing the luxury and service expected.

Cordon Bleu trained Chef Jo’s love of cooking materialized early in life thanks to her mother’s input, herself a lifelong chef. It was a natural progression to combine her love of food with her love of the sea. Alongside Captain Martin, with their oceans of experience and handpicked well qualified crew you know you are in safe capable hands.

Josh was born in Brisbane, Australia and spent most of his life in Cairns. He is filled with enthusiasm for many activities such as: scuba, free diving, spearfishing, hiking, photography, carpentry and experiencing exotic foods and cultures of the world. During his adventures, Josh discovered a love for sharks after being surrounded by a dozen peaceful tiger sharks in the Great Barrier Reef. This experience inspired him to continue his life at sea, where he found himself working on expedition vessels in the Pacific, Mediterranean and eventually with us here on Spirit.

Josh has a thirst for knowledge and is eager to continue to gain further skill and qualifications, whilst making new friends and memories along the way. He plans to one day become a master of his own sailboat and make documentaries whilst circumnavigating the world.

Hanna is from the north island of New Zealand and was brought up on the beautiful coastline of Tutukaka. Growing up on the Tutukaka Coast meant she had top dive spots and great fishing right at her doorstep, these of which become her greatest passions for the sea. Following her love of the ocean, Hanna pursued a career in yachting and in 2016 landed her first stewardess role on a 45-metre sail yacht cruising New Zealand and Fiji.

Since then, Hanna has worked on yachts in the Mediterranean and down here closer to home as a stewardess and deckhand on vessels up to 50-metres. In 2018 she took a 1-year hiatus to become a deckhand on x-racing Sydney to Hobart maxi yachts in the Whitsundays.

Hanna joins spirit with her enthusiasm and positive attitude. You’ll find her all around vessel, from mixing cocktails, throwing lines and telling bad jokes.
